Characterized by rolling hills and deep valleys, and shaded by a forest of trees, the Mount Hope Cemetery was established in 1838, making it the first municipal Victorian cemetery in the entire United States. Visitors can see the entire range of Victorian funerary art, from small Greek temples to Egyptian-style obelisks to sculpted Christian saints, angels and pets, and visit the grave sites of famous figures including Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass and Reverend Thomas James. The cemetery is located between the University of Rochester and Highland Park, just north of the Strong Memorial Hospital.
