Great Italian

Posted by Tolkon on 2/19/2009

Finally we are starting to get more great food downtown. I just ate here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had Fra Diavolo and the seafood was cooked to perfection. The linguine could have been a bit more al dente but the marinara sauce was so good it didn't matter. My friend had Chicken French, good old Rochester style with lemon, sherry and chicken stock, thickened with butter and a sprinkling of Parmesan served over pasta and a nice mesculin salad as well. The accoutrement tray with olive oil, cheese, hot pepper and whiped butter that came with our warm bread was a nice touch. The service was great and the ambiance is great. I wish the fireplace was lit though. Nice view of the river also. As a local chef myself and having been in this business all my life, I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back for dinner!

The BEST Italian in Rochester

Posted by sweetbella on 6/11/2007

This restaurant is so lovely and gets high marks from me across the board. The room is lovely and very tasteful, the staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional, and the food is consistently outstanding. I like to go earlier or later, after one unfortunate experience of going during peak dinner hours on a weekend and being seated next to a large crowd of drunken, crass suburbanites that obviously don't get out much. All of the other tables and the staff were mortified at their behavior, and if it wasn't so offensively loud, it would probably would have been more humorous. But I digress...this restaurant is the only one in Rochester to actually make really excellent upscale Italian food (aside from my other favorite, Agatinas, which may now have to take a back seat to Pane Vino just based on effort alone. And Baccos also rates in the top 3 best Italian food.) This place also has a nice bar, so if you are early or need to wait, there is at least a comfortable place to get a nice glass of wine or a drink. The owner or chef (I can't remember which) strolls around to check on your meal, and I've ordered a wide variety of entrees and appetizers and each one has been fantastic.
